Week 2 Term 3

We were treated to a surprise visit by some of the Counties Steelers rugby players. They interacted with the students, talked about themselves and their training linking it to learning and gave away some prizes. They encouraged children to come along to support them at their games especially when they play the All Blacks at the Eco-Light Stadium on Friday week

This week the class enjoyed a short game of soccer using the blow-up soccer pitch. The students will have brought home a notice about the opportunity to have soccer lessons during break and lunch times once a week using the inflatable pitch, however, there is cost.

We started our one-hour gymnastic lessons run by Franklin Gymsports and I was impressed at the way the coaches kept the students moving and experiencing a range of equipment. This was enjoyed by all.

The students are enjoying their novel studies and getting into some good examples of literature.
They have finished their skateboard designs and Mrs Taylor has mounted these beautifully to show them off.
We are concentrating on description writing and I am finding that the kids need to persevere with editing and completing their work.

We did our termly basic facts test this week and 11 pupils have advanced to the next stage- great progress and it is obvious which students make the effort with Mathletics and learning their tables. Disappointingly a few students have made little progress all year with this.

Kathleen and Samuel have been involved with Mathex problem-solving coaching and will be taking part in the Franklin Schools Mathex competition in 2 weeks.  This is an exciting and challenging evening where teams compete against the best from all the Franklin schools in Maths problem-solving.

Thanks to all those parents who offered transport for the netball tournament next week or to supervise. Notices about transport and other roles have gone home. Thanks too for getting payment and permission slips returned so promptly. We wish the teams all the best for next week. Apparently, there is a huge number of entries so the players will be really tested.

We have been doing some science focusing on thinking and observing like a scientist. This week we studied the eye and had to draw each others.

Ella was our Athlete of the Week while both Jamie and Sam were our Player s of the week- Jamie for helping others and Sam for his perseverance in cross country training and in his observational drawing.
